The iconic Motatapu returns in 2023 on 4th March with four iconic races, the 47km Mountain Bike Race, 15km Miners Trail, 42km Marathon, 52.5km Ultra Run, 56km Coronet Loop Mountain Bike and 4km Junior Trail Run. Held on one epic day, it is your one chance a year to experience the breathtaking high country terrain and traverse the Motatapu, Soho and Glencoe Stations between Wanaka and Queenstown.
It’s a bucket-list off-road event with challenging yet achievable courses, which attracts close to 4000 participants a year. The Motatapu is a hugely enjoyable and social event, famous for its relaxed southern vibe and huge comradery. The Queenstown Trails Trust is the Official Charity of the Motatapu, this means when you enter a percentage of your entry fee goes to the Queenstown Trails Trust. You also have the ability to further support the Queenstown Trails Trust by donating when prompted through the event online registration system.
Funds raised from the Motatapu goes directly back into trail network, enabling us to maintain and expand our trails into the future. We would like to thank the event organisers and all of the competitors for their support of the trail network.
